Venezuela’s ‘little commandos’ took on Maduro. Now they may be leading a new wave of migration

“Little Commandos” refer to the members of a grassroots rebellion that took place in Venezuela against President Nicolás Maduro’s government. Composed mainly of young people brimming with anger and frustration towards the political and economic crisis that has hit Venezuela hard, these “Little Commandos” became a significant force of opposition.

Due to the ongoing political conflict and economic instability in Venezuela, many citizens are deciding to leave their home country in search of a better future. It is not surprising then, that the “Little Commandos” might join this wave of migration, particularly as they may face potential reprisal for their involvement with the rebellion. Moreover, the dire situation in current-day Venezuela, with shortages in basic necessities and skyrocketing inflation, pushes these young people to seek opportunities abroad.
