Morning brief: Musk’s $1T vote; Trump’s peace claim; France to ban Shein

Global attention was fixed on several major developing stories, from a pivotal corporate vote at Tesla on Thursday to a controversial diplomatic claim from the White House and a significant government action against a fast-fashion giant in France.

Tesla’s board is set to vote on a historic pay package for CEO Elon Musk, President Trump has once again claimed credit for brokering peace between India and Pakistan, and the French government is moving to suspend the popular shopping site Shein.

Here’s your one-stop stand to catch up on all the headlines you may have missed.

Tesla board to vote on Musk’s $1 trillion pay package amid opposition

Tesla’s board is scheduled to vote on Thursday on a record-breaking $1 trillion compensation package for CEO Elon Musk, a decision that comes as major proxy advisory firms urge shareholders to reject the deal.

Both Glass Lewis and Institutional Shareholder Services have recommended that investors vote against the package, which is the largest in corporate history.

Their advice often influences the voting of large institutional funds.

The high-stakes vote comes at a challenging time for Tesla, which has faced declining global sales and wavering investor confidence this year.

Trump repeats claim of brokering India-Pakistan peace

US President Donald Trump has repeated his claim that he brokered peace between India and Pakistan in May by threatening to cancel trade deals with both nuclear-armed nations.

Speaking at the America Business Forum in Miami, Trump updated his account of the conflict, stating that eight fighter jets were shot down, an increase from his previous count of seven.

“I said, ‘I’m not going to make any trade deals with you guys unless you agree to peace,’” Trump claimed, adding that the two countries “made peace” the next day.

India has consistently denied any US intervention, stating that a ceasefire was achieved after Pakistani commanders requested it.

France moves to suspend Shein over childlike sex doll controversy

The French government has initiated a procedure to suspend the fast-fashion website Shein following a political outcry over the sale of childlike sex dolls on its platform.

The announcement came as the online retailer opened its first-ever physical store in Paris under a heavy police presence.

The prime minister’s office said the suspension would last “for the time necessary for the platform to demonstrate…that all of its content is finally in compliance with our laws.”

Shein, which has since banned all sex dolls from its site and pledged to cooperate with authorities, told Reuters it was seeking “urgent consultations” with the government.
