Michael Cohen testimony ties Donald Trump to hush money payment

In February 2019, Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, testified before Congress where he admitted to arranging hush money payments on behalf of Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign.

He claimed that he paid $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels (whose real name is Stephanie Clifford), to prevent her from revealing an alleged affair with Trump. The payments are considered to constitute campaign finance violations because they were seen as contributions intended to influence the outcome of the election.

Cohen testified that he was acting under the direction of and in coordination with Donald Trump. However, Trump denied these allegations, saying that he had no knowledge of the payments at the time they were made.
