What we know about what Israel has found at Al-Shifa
In 1998, Israeli forces conducted a raid on the Al-Shifa pharmaceutical plant in Sudan, alleging it had connections to terrorism and was producing chemical weapons; however, the raid did not uncover any evidence to support these allegations. The only items of note that were seized during the raid included documents showing the plant’s financial records, laboratory equipment, and some precursor chemicals for producing medicines. There were no chemical weapons or any materials that could be used for the production of chemical weapons found in or around the plant. This led to significant international criticism of the raid, as Sudan had not been linked to any terrorism networks, and the incident was deemed an illegal violation of sovereignty.
