Shani Louk, a 23-year-old Israeli student, has been declared dead after being kidnapped by the militant group Hamas. Louk was last seen at the Beach Club near the Israeli city of Ashkelon in July 2019. Hamas claimed it had abducted Louk at the music festival.
The Israeli government has held Hamas responsible for her death and recently issued a statement claiming that “Shani Louk is deceased.” It did not provide any details as to the circumstances of her death.
Louk’s friends and family have not commented on the news. There have also been reports of efforts by third parties to secure her release, which have gone unanswered. In the aftermath of her disappearance, notices were posted asking anyone with information to come forward with details.
Louk’s kidnapping and subsequent death have caused great sadness in the local community and sparked several protests demanding information and justice. Her case has also highlighted the vulnerabilities of civilians living in countries facing conflicts.
